We are officially entering Week 3: August 17–21, 2026, and our Sea Dragons are continuing to build the routines, independence, and academic habits necessary for success at Savannah-Chatham E-Learning Academy!

As we continue Charting the C.O.U.R.S.E. to Unlimited Possibilities, this is an important week for our school community. In addition to continued instruction, scholars in Grades 1–10 will participate in NWEA MAP Testing, and we will launch our first Focus Friday on Friday, August 21, 2026.

⚓ Your Week 3 Sea Dragon Success Checklist

1.      Attendance Matters — Every Sea Dragon. Every Day.
Scholars should log in on time, attend every scheduled class, and remain actively engaged for the entirety of each class period.

Families, please continue supporting consistent morning routines and monitoring your scholar's attendance. Being present is only the first step, active participation, completing assignments, responding to teachers, and remaining engaged throughout instruction are essential to academic success.

2.      Review Your Scholar’s Schedule in PowerSchool.
Please continue reviewing your scholar's official class schedule through PowerSchool and ensure your scholar is attending the correct classes each day.

Families who need assistance accessing the PowerSchool Parent Portal can use the SCCPSS Student Information System resources: PowerSchool Parent Portal Information

Please remember that newly enrolled scholars may experience a 48–72 hour processing period between receiving a PowerSchool schedule and gaining access to all learning platforms through their student login. Scholars will not receive an academic penalty while waiting for access to be established.

3.      Monitor Your Scholar's Grades and Assignments.
Week 3 is a great time for families and scholars to begin regularly reviewing academic progress.

Please check PowerSchool and Brightspace throughout the week for:

• Current course grades
• Missing or incomplete assignments
• Upcoming assignments and assessments
• Teacher feedback
• Announcements and instructional resources

Families, we encourage you to review this information with your scholar and help them identify any classes where additional support may be needed.

4.      Check Brightspace and Microsoft Teams Every School Day.
Sea Dragons should now be establishing a consistent routine of independently checking their digital learning platforms each day for:

• Daily Agenda Instructional Slides
• Assignments and due dates
• Teacher announcements
• Microsoft Teams meetings
• Class resources and instructional materials
• Teacher feedback
• Missing or incomplete assignments

Being Self-Directed is an important part of our C.O.U.R.S.E., and scholars should increasingly take ownership of navigating their virtual learning environment and managing their academic responsibilities.
 

5.      Make Sure Your Scholar Has a District-Issued Device.
All SCELA scholars are required to use an SCCPSS district-issued device for virtual learning. If your scholar still needs a device, please visit 3609 Hopkins Street, park in the 52nd Street parking lot, and report to Room 10 for assistance.
 

6.      Complete the Required SCELA Choice Handbook and Agreement Sign-Off.
If you have not already done so, please review the 2026–2027 SCELA Choice Student/Parent Handbook [Click Here] and complete the required SCELA Choice Student/Parent Agreement sign-off [Click Here].

These documents outline the expectations and commitments necessary for scholars and families to successfully participate in SCELA's virtual learning environment.
 

7.      Complete the SCCPSS Code of Conduct Agreement.
Parents/guardians should also complete the required SCCPSS Code of Conduct Agreement through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Click Here for instructions.
 

📊 NWEA MAP TESTING | AUGUST 17–19, 2026

Our NWEA MAP assessment for scholars in Grades 1–10 takes place in person at the SCELA Gym this week.

NWEA MAP provides valuable beginning-of-year information about each scholar's current academic performance and helps our teachers identify strengths, opportunities for growth, and instructional needs.

Please carefully review your scholar's testing date and time below.

🎯 NEW THIS WEEK: FOCUS FRIDAY BEGINS AUGUST 21, 2026!

Sea Dragon Families, we are excited to launch our first Focus Friday on Friday, August 21, 2026!

Focus Fridays are designed to provide targeted academic support while also encouraging scholars to take greater ownership of their academic progress.

🐉 Sea Dragon Support Sessions | 9:00 AM–12:00 PM

Sea Dragon scholars who have a course grade below 85% will be required to attend Sea Dragon Support Sessions with their teachers from 9:00 AM–12:00 PM on Focus Friday.

These sessions provide scholars with dedicated opportunities to:

• Receive targeted support from their teachers
• Address unfinished or missing assignments
• Strengthen understanding of essential standards and skills
• Ask questions and receive additional clarification
• Improve their academic performance
• Develop stronger habits for independent learning

Families, please review your scholar's grades in PowerSchool and Brightspace before Friday, August 21, 2026. If your scholar has a grade below 85% in any course, please plan for them to participate in the appropriate Sea Dragon Support Session(s) from 9:00 AM–12:00 PM.

Focus Friday is not simply about improving a grade, it is about ensuring that our Sea Dragons receive the time, support, feedback, and additional learning opportunities they need to be successful.

🌊 Week 3: From Strong Routines to Academic Ownership

During our opening weeks, we focused on welcoming scholars, building relationships, establishing classroom communities, learning school expectations, and developing successful virtual-learning routines.

As we enter Week 3, our focus continues to shift toward academic ownership.

Families can support this transition by asking their scholar a few questions each evening:

• Did you attend and actively participate in every class today?
• What did you learn today?
• What are your current grades?
• Do you have any missing or incomplete assignments?
• Is there a class where you need additional support?
• Do you need to attend a Sea Dragon Support Session on Friday?

These conversations help scholars understand that academic success is something we build together, scholar, family, and school.

We have officially completed our first week of the 2026–2027 school year, and we are excited to continue building momentum as we enter Week 2: August 10–14, 2026!

Thank you to our Sea Dragon scholars and families for your partnership as we launched another year of virtual learning at Savannah-Chatham E-Learning Academy. The first days of school have provided important opportunities to establish routines, build relationships, learn expectations, navigate our digital learning environment, and prepare our scholars for academic success.

6.      Check Brightspace and Microsoft Teams Every School Day.
By Week 2, scholars should be developing a daily routine of checking their digital learning platforms for:

•        Class resources and instructional materials

During our first week, we focused heavily on welcoming our scholars, establishing classroom communities, teaching routines, and introducing what it means to be a SCELA Sea Dragon.

During Week 2, we will continue strengthening those foundations while preparing our scholars for the academic routines and expectations that will guide us throughout the year.

Beginning Monday, August 17, 2026, our Sea Dragons will transition into the next phase of our instructional programming. Establishing strong attendance, participation, organization, communication, and independent learning habits now will help make that transition successful.

Families can help by asking their scholar a few simple questions each evening:

SCELA scholars will regularly use platforms such as Brightspace, ClassLink, Microsoft Teams, and other SCCPSS digital resources. Families are encouraged to become familiar with these tools and ensure scholars know how to access their classes before Monday morning.

6.      Know your Homeroom/Advisement teacher.
Your scholar's Homeroom/Advisement teacher will serve as an important point of connection throughout the school year. Please save the teacher's contact information, Microsoft Teams link, and office hours when provided. If technology or access issues arise, communicate with the Homeroom/Advisement teacher and allow appropriate response time during the instructional day.
